Camino Recovery specializes in equine assisted psychotherapy (EAP). In fact, their program director, Don Lavender, is a pioneer in the development of the therapy. Through interactions between the horse and the client, a therapist can help the client work through issues, often more effectively than talk therapy.
Therapists at Camino Recovery dig deep to address underlying causes to drug and alcohol abuse and mental health disorders. Using tools like equine therapy and EMDR therapy, they’ll gently guide you through healing from past traumas.
Over a 4 to 5-day family programme, the family gets to learn how they’ve been affected by their loved one’s behaviour and healthy ways to cope with relationships. The programme involves educational lectures, group therapy sessions and more.
Camino Recovery prioritizes personalized, evidence-based, and holistic care. Each client receives a treatment plan created around their unique circumstance, and with small group sizes, staff at Camino Recovery can attend to all aspects of clients’ treatment. Using evidence-based therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy, Camino Recovery treats a variety of mental health conditions and co-occurring disorders.

As a treatment professional I went to Camino after suffering a relapse. I have known the people here for 30 years and consider them to be the best in the business. They have created a wonderful atmosphere inside a beautiful facility. Individual care and group therapy is very good and they also have great experience in secondary conditions. My ADHD was addressed here and other issues that dated back many years and had never been addressed before were uncovered. The family week was critical and they are the only facility in Europe that does it in the way they do.

Going to Camino was the best gift I could have given myself. I arrived feeling lost, hopeless and fearful. Under the expert guidance and care of each staff member, I was able to learn about my addiction and better understand the condition I had been struggling with for so many years. I left Camino with optimism, gratitude and hope. I will be forever grateful for everything I was given over the course of my time there. The treatment I received at Camino was the start of a journey which has enabled me to better equip myself for the life I want to live for myself and my family. I am pleased to say that my recovery is going well so far, and I have Camino to thank for that.

Camino was recommended by another treatment-centre who had turned me away. At that point I was totally broken and had little ability to see the extent of the damage I was causing to myself and my family and friends. I had been ill with various different mental disorders and addictions for the better part of my life, some that I knew of, and others that I didn’t. The days were very long and painful to begin with, but with the help of the most wonderful human beings, I began to turn a corner. In the year leading up to Camino, all I felt was pain; whether that be very low lows or very high highs, I did not want to live anymore. Camino showed me that I wanted to live a life, and that this life could be good. Today I am writing this while going into the second term of university, something I cannot believe that I have managed. I am doing what I love: working with horses, and am surrounded by family and friends who love me. Camino is a place where I was treated with respect, honest, and a huge amount of love. I saw them strike the perfect balance of maintaining professionalism while holding me up as a cared for individual. I am so grateful for my time there, and I will carry it with me always

All staff were very caring. I felt safe, like being rapped in cotton wool. I was able to face my demons with out worry, as I felt protected and safe. The overall experience was out of this world and with the security of knowing they are only a phone call away I have passed my 10th year completely sober with no urge to relapse.
