About Maui Recovery
Maui Recovery provides residential addiction and mental health treatment in a serene 10-bed home. They prioritize whole-person healing and treat the mind, body, and spirit with an individualized care plan and a unique Hero’s Journey program. Maui Recovery offers individual therapy sessions, group therapy, weekly family therapy, and adventure therapy twice a week. They emphasize nature immersion, mindfulness, and mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR). Maui Recovery also incorporates spiritual health, offering spiritual consulting with a Hawaiian Kahuna (or shaman). For Kama’aina clients, Maui Recovery offers a discounted treatment rate.
Maui Recovery offers exceptional care in their clinical and holistic treatments, with licensed providers combining years of experience. Many have experienced addiction and recovery first hand. Their on-call doctor can provide IV vitamin and hydration therapy, and tend to any pressing medical needs. Nursing staff and holistic specialists offer services on site. Maui Recovery also provides primary mental health treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and more.
In addition to treating substance use, Maui Recovery can treat behavioral addictions, like sex addiction, gambling, and internet addiction. Their internet addiction track helps clients separate from their device and find connection in their peers, nature, and mindfulness. They also offer treatment for codependency, thought disorders, bipolar, trauma, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). And Maui Recovery’s service and therapy dog Blue is almost always nearby.
Clients at Maui Recovery can experience Hawaii to its fullest. Maui Recovery offers sunset hiking trips, waterfall visits, surfing, outrigger canoeing, and multiple snorkeling excursions. On site, clients can enjoy a calm and quiet setting with optional private rooms, catering services, and indoor/outdoor lounge areas.

Maui Recovery strives to treat the cause and symptoms of addiction using comprehensive care. Their evidence-based therapies include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), equine therapy, and eye movement therapy (EMDR). Along with these, Maui Recovery also offers a wide range of holistic services for addiction and mental health.
Aiming to treat the underlying cause of addiction, Maui Recovery treats mental health conditions and trauma. They use trauma-informed therapy and EMDR to help clients heal and recover. Group, individual, and family therapy sessions all work together to heal a variety of mental health conditions, provide education, and offer hope.
Maui Recovery uniquely uses a Hero’s Journey treatment style, comparing addiction recovery to the literary Hero’s Journey. Based on Joseph Campell’s staged story arc, Maui Recovery’s approach identifies each client as the author, and hero, of their recovery story. This program can inspire personal transformation and a dedication to recovery.
Maui Recovery offers 2 adventure therapies each week. Clients can explore an underwater crater, see turtle families, and explore reefs in snorkeling expeditions. Maui Recovery’s surf therapist leads surf therapy. Clients at Maui Recovery can also harvest food from the farm of Hawaii’s Renaissance Man, George Kahumoku Jr., a multiple Grammy & Hoku Award-winning singer and musician. After harvest, clients can eat together and listen to his award-winning talent.

I have tried everything to get sober with no long term results. I needed a multifaceted approach and Maui Recovery Center provided that. I’m so grateful for their approach and the beautiful center they provide it in. They have insightful therapy options balanced with several weekly outdoor adventures, yoga practices, opportunities to go to the gym, delish, healthy food, and have a knowledgeable and caring staff. I was afraid to go, but I knew I needed something more than just a place to detox. I’m LIVING my best life now, because I have the tools to help me stay sober.

Maui Recovery changed my life for the better and helped me develop tools to never go back to the way I used to live. Some people might say that being a stoner is not some thing to worry about, but for me, weed was ruining my life. When I spoke to Nick Terry on the phone, he validated how I was feeling and made me understand that treatment was available for me. During my 30 days at Maui Recovery , I felt safe, supported, and cared for. The facilities are fabulous, the location is obviously stunning, but on top of all of that the therapists, support staff, and overall care team are extremely dedicated and knowledgeable. They helped me understand some of my deepest triggers trauma and things that were causing me to use and keep me stuck in a lifestyle that was not making me happy. I have almost 5 months completely sober now, with no end in sight, and it is all due to Maui recovery. Special shout out to Rich who collected me from the airport on my first day when I couldn’t stop crying and I was a terrified mess. He made me feel so comfortable with his gentle mannerisms and good attitude, and I knew from that first moment that this would be a life-changing experience. I could not speak more highly of Maui Recovery. I would recommend it to literally anyone who even has a thought that they might have an issue with substance use. You will never regret investing in your own care, especially at such a wonderful program.

I have struggled with alcoholism for almost half of my life. When I committed to a 90 day stay at Maui Recovery, my relationships were crumbling, I was unable to keep up with work or my scholastic career, and I had lost my will to live.Something magical happened as I immersed myself in MR’s program. With amazing therapists, I was able to work through traumas which had stunted my emotional growth. In group sessions, I learned coping skills which I had never developed. Through nature immersion therapy, I found myself feeling connected to something greater than myself. A month into my treatment, I realized that I was only going to get back as much as I put in. I took advantage of the numerous meeting options that surrounded the campus. I made my time at the facility as transformational as possible by being present & open minded. The behaviors & attitudes that had hindered me in the past began to morph as I put in the work to literally change my life. The 90 days I spent in MR laid the foundation for what I will continue to build for the rest of my life. In two weeks, I will be celebrating a year of sobriety. This would have been possible without the community &holistic healing that MR offers. I truly believe that someone needs to be ready to recover for treatment to be effective, and I thank the MR team for guiding me until I was ready to undergo my metamorphosis. When I learned to let go, I learned a new way to live. And more importantly, I’ve found a life worth living.

Maui Recovery literally saved my life. If you're ready to get better and are willing to put in the work, look no further. Who knew rehab could be such an enjoyable experience??There are a number of things that make MR different and stand out from most other places. Like any good rehab, they help you through detox and teach you new coping skills. Like any quality co-current diagnosis rehab, their incredible therapists help you understand and address the trauma behind your addiction (I've been in therapy most of my life and swear I had more insights in the first 10 days there than in the last 10 years.) And unlike any other rehab I found, they also reconnect you with the reasons life is worth living, and the other ways to enjoy and have thrills in life. The surfing, hiking, snorkeling, etc adventures reconnected me with reasons not to numb out, and ways to thrive instead of just survive. I entered MR knowing I didn't have much longer to live. I left with a completely new life, outlook, and hope. Before I got there, I heard that multiple staff members are former clients, and that they have weekly alumni gatherings. I thought, "Dang, who would want to hang around their rehab?!" but as soon as I arrived, was like "Oooooh. Ok yeah. I get it." The family feel, the above and beyond personal care -- the staff truly care about you and go out of their way to show it time and time again. It all adds up to something completely different than you'll find most other places.
