Testimonial

The whole meaning and purpose approach really clicked with me and I could really identify with something missing in my life, so I felt, even before I got here, that it was a program that would definitely have something to offer and help me with the things I was dealing with.

This place saved my life and has saved the life of many others who I became friends with while here. The way they put the programming together and the quality of the facilitators is amazing. The clients are all very friendly and so are the staff.

Staff involved with clients were satisfactory and above. Everyone from the clinical therapists and nurses to the kitchen and housekeeping staff seemed genuinely interested in providing a meaningful experience. Family and Friends program were very poor. My two outside contacts, my partner and my sister received little info from the program and no direct discussions, only links to standard generic YouTube videos, despite calling several times to reach a live staff member. Administration was poor due to lack of communication with clients as well as frontline staff (client services, case managers) who were not able to get direction on suggested activities, expenses for simple items (volleyball, guitar strings) or information on invoicing. It felt as if there was no authority or direction from above (full disclosure: they were looking for a new senior manager while Meghan White served as an interim until they could hire someone qualified).

My stay at SCHC could not have been better. This was everything that I expected. The facilities are incredible, the setting is second to none, and the staff are some of the most special people I have ever had the chance of working with. With the help and continued support of SCHC, through their Alumni programs, I am confident that I will succeed in my recovery, knowing and understanding that this is a lifelong journey. Thanks so much to everyone at SCHC. I really appreciate everything you have done for myself, my family, and my friends.

I believe in meaning centred therapy, which SCHC's program is based around. Unfortunately, the program wasn't as advertised. There were constant administrative problems, and I experienced quite a bit of miscommunication. They advertise a treatment plan tailored to each individual, but it was clear that our schedules were made based on available providers, not patient needs. We were told all clients would see the psychiatrist within the first 7 days, I didn't see them until day 11, over 1/3 of the way through the program. Facilities were adequate, but again they advertise as a luxury facility...constant construction and broken amenities were my experience. As I was being shown the facility on my first day the client services staff member was saying "oh ya here's where you'll get your hakomi therapy, or here's where they do the rTMS, it will be good to try those" but any requests to try these types of treatments were met with excuses of scheduling conflicts. The nursing unit was very disorganized...I gave a blood sample that I don't think ever got sent to the lab, and I wasn't the only one. I didn't want to write a negative review, because I have a lot of respect for many staff members there. However, what finally motivated me to write this is that SCHC organised transport to and from the airport, I missed my flight because the driver forgot about me, then I was assured I would be reimbursed for new travel expenses ($900)..only to be denied with no explanation.

Sunshine Coast Health Centre

Hello Robert, Thank you for your review and comments. We appreciate your feedback as we can discuss it at our next quality improvement meeting to see where improvements in different departments can be made. We are always trying to improve our services and appreciate feedback directly from those who attend our programs. As a meaning-centred program, authorship and responsibility are two large components of the therapy here. As a result, we do not monitor and manage client personal organization such as room cleanliness, appointment schedules, and travel plans. Doing so would not support clients in being fully responsible adults after they left us. We do apologize for this misunderstanding while you were here.

Very beautiful place, with incredible people, that go above and beyond for you, when your at your worst. They literally saved my life. That was 7 years ago and I’m still clean and sober. More importantly, I’m happy and healthy.
